Caring for Your Jewelry
Your Jewelry by Eti pieces are crafted to be worn and loved. With a little attention, they'll stay beautiful for years to come.
Daily Wear
Fine jewelry is designed for everyday life, but a few habits go a long way. Put your jewelry on last — after getting dressed, applying products, and styling your hair. Remove pieces before sleeping, exercising, or doing housework to minimize unnecessary stress on delicate settings and chains.
Showering & Swimming
We recommend removing all jewelry before showering, bathing, or swimming. Chlorine, saltwater, and even tap water can dull metals and accelerate tarnish over time. For gold-plated pieces in particular, prolonged water exposure can wear the plating more quickly.
Perfume & Lotion
Chemicals in perfumes, lotions, sunscreen, and hairspray are among the most common causes of tarnish and surface dulling. Allow any products to fully absorb into your skin before putting on your jewelry. When in doubt, jewelry goes on last.
Storage
Store each piece separately to prevent scratching — individual pouches, a lined jewelry box, or small zip-lock bags work well. Keep jewelry away from direct sunlight, humidity, and extreme temperature changes. An anti-tarnish strip placed in your storage container can help sterling silver stay bright between wears.
Polishing & Cleaning
For sterling silver, use a soft, lint-free polishing cloth to gently buff away tarnish as needed. Avoid abrasive cloths or chemical dips, which can scratch or strip the surface. For a deeper clean, a mild soap-and-water solution (applied with a soft cloth, then thoroughly rinsed and dried) works well for solid silver pieces.
For gold-plated pieces, use only a dry or very lightly damp soft cloth. Avoid polishing compounds entirely — they can remove the plating layer.
Gold-Plated Pieces
Gold plating adds a warm, luxurious finish over a base metal. Because the gold layer is applied rather than solid, it requires a little more care to maintain. Consistent exposure to moisture, sweat, friction, and harsh products will gradually wear the plating. Following the guidelines above — keeping plated pieces dry, free of chemicals, and properly stored — will help preserve the finish as long as possible. When the plating does show wear over time, this is a natural characteristic of the material, not a defect.
